Tom Powell
Tom is a newsroom leader with 15 years of experience in broadcast journalism. He prides himself on talking an enthusiastic approach to news gathering in order to tell important stories that capture your attention.
Tom’s first job took him to Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he reported for KSFY-TV. He then moved to Memphis, TN where he spent eight years as the lead reporter and primary fill-in anchor for the top rated newscast in the market. In Memphis, Tom covered everything from a nasty wind storm dubbed “Hurricane Elvis” to the Prime Minister of Japan’s visit to Graceland.
Tom moved back to the Midwest more than five years ago to co-anchor FOX28 News at 10 in South Bend. Under Tom’s leadership, the newscast was named one of the best in Indiana by the Society of Professional Journalists.
Tom graduated from the University of Illinois where he earned a scholarship for excellence in news writing. With that in mind, there will probably be only one scenario where Tom and his co-anchor Linda Jackson won’t see eye-to-eye, and that’s when the Hoosiers are playing the Illini.
Speaking of Linda, Tom is thrilled to be sharing the desk with such a professional journalist. Linda’s talent behind the scenes and on the air has earned her the trust of the Fort Wayne community. Linda and Tom work together with the entire staff at Fort Wayne’s NBC to bring you in-depth, meaningful coverage of what’s happening in the city and all of Allen County. “He has a big heart for people and a great mind for news,” Linda says.
When he’s not at work, you might find Tom at one of the city’s great new breweries, walking his boxer at Foster Park or fixing up his new house in Fort Wayne. Make sure to say hi!
