I’m excited to participate in Riley Reason to Dance this year. I’m a native Hoosier and grew up in Martinsville, IN. I attended Indiana University Indianapolis, receiving a bachelor’s degree in environmental science and public health. I received my master’s degree in occupational safety management from Indiana State University. I joined IU Health/Riley out of college and have been with the organization for 19 years.
I currently serve as the System Director of Environmental Health & Safety for IU Health and oversee multiple aspects of team member safety and regulatory compliance. I also serve as a principal on the National Fire Protection Association Life Safety Code Health Care Occupancies Committee, helping to shape future codes for health care. I love working at Riley and have been involved in multiple large- and small-scale projects across the campus, including the Riley Simon Family Tower addition and the conversion of the Riley Maternity Tower.
I come from a long line of health care workers – my grandfather was a gynecologist, my grandmother was a nurse, my mom is a nurse, and several of my aunts are nurses and physicians. Even though I am not a direct caregiver, I find great fulfillment in serving behind the scenes, ensuring that our hospitals support the highest quality patient care. All my children have received care at Riley, and I am so grateful for the support of the Child Life team, which made their visits less scary.
My beautiful wife, Jen, and I have a blended family of six wonderful children (Marcy, Max, Ben, Lilly, Eli, and Emma) and one dog named Mia. We live in Lawrence, Indiana, and enjoy spending time with family and friends, playing music, and traveling.
